..convert my wav file into an mp3 file to send over the net? (less MBs)

(continued from technical help)

I know I have asked for so much help on this but these obstacles keep turning up. Why do things get so complicated????

If you and Simon live near eachother I think it might be easier and quicker for you to meet up for some specialist tutoring http://th446.photobucket.com/albums/qq186/AnimsNSmilies/Blink_Wink_n_Stare/th_0523.gif

Don't worry about asking questions, never sit in silence if you have a problem!!!

My guide to using 'winLAME' to change bit rates and convert to MP3:

Step One - Open the files you want to convert

Step Two - Choose the new location to save to

Step Three - Choose quality of file, these categories are explained in the area at the bottom

Step Four - Choosing quality of file (advanced) if you want to be more specific. This screen is found by selecting the first option from the previous stage.

Step Five - Start conversion by clicking the play

I hope this becomes very useful to many members of the site. To download the programme, simply search on Google.

Oh but your box things on your computer look different to mine...It is all too complicated for me.

What site do I download WINLAME from? Is it safe? I don't want a virus...

PS Thanks for all the effort in your reply Simon

I will send you a private message Ems, I made a download link to send some friends my copy a short while ago and I'm sure its safe that way.

If you look at 'Step Two', you want to make sure you don't have the boxes 'delete after encoding' and 'overwrite existing files' ticked. You will see I have them ticked because it saves me time afterwards.

Thanks

so annoyed...trying to change marker position on soundforge to not make my mistake so obvious...I deleted the marker and put a new one in but it then wont do the region thing right so I can't change the marker position!

Yay converting my file now! Wasn't sure on what quality to pick so I just chose the middle one. (The best quality one)

Is this right?

Best quality [320] is only necessary for playing out music extremely loud (the sort of quality needed for someone like Jules to play a tune in a club or event).

For studio or bedroom use you can lower the bit rate all the way to 92 [or 96, whichever it is] and you will not hear much difference (if any), but you will see the difference in file size dramatically. To do this you will have to choose the 'custom settings' option from Step Two, and then lower the bit rate down (on Step Four) to nothing less than 92/96.
